Biographical Information[edit]

Cesare Astorri played in the minors and for the Italian national team.

He hit .320/.321/.320 in the 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup and tied for 3rd with 3 runners caught stealing. [1] He was at .250/.318/.300 in the 2015 European Junior Championship and handled 50 chances without an error, second in fielding. [2] At the 2016 European Junior Championship, he hit .474/.565/.737 with 7 runs in 5 games, going 4-for-4 in steals while throwing out 2 of 3 who ran on him. He was 4th in average, 5th in OBP, 6th in slugging, tied for 7th in runs, tied for 6th in hits (9), tied Leonardo Seminati and Giulio Monello for the home run lead (1), was 4th in total bases (14) and trailed only Aldrich De Jongh in steals. He was signed by Oakland A's scout Trevor Ryan. [4] He batted .289/.360/.333 in 16 games for the 2018 AZL Athletics, then .161/.299/.253 for the 2019 AZL Athletics Gold (splitting catching with Matt Cross primarily). In 2020, he returned to his native Italy to hit .259/.366/.552 with 19 RBI in 22 games for Bologna. Only Federico Celli hit more dingers in the 2020 Serie A1 and he tied Sebastiano Poma for 6th in RBI as well.

Moving to his hometown Parma team, he produced at a .292/.365/.472 clip in 2021 with 22 runs in 23 games. In the 2021 European Champions Cup, he hit .368/.500/.789 with two homers, six runs and six RBI in five games for the champs. He went deep off Bologna's Murilo Gouvêa and the Amsterdam Pirates' Juan Carlos Sulbaran. He tied for 10th in the Cup in runs, tied for 4th in doubles (2) and tied for 10th in home runs. [5] In the 2021 U23 European Championship, he hit .154/.333/.154; his 9 strikeouts were one behind leader David Grimes. [6]

In 2022, he hit .324/.367/.483. He tied Aldo Koutsoyanopulos and Ramon Bonilla for 6th in hits (57), tied for 7th in doubles (13) and was 3rd with 47 RBI (behind Dudley Leonora's 49 and Federico Calvo's 48). [7] Parma fell short in the 2022 Italian Series. In the 2022 European Champions Cup, he batted only .211/.261/.263 but Parma won the title. [8]

Parma fell to 2nd in the 2023 European Champions Cup but Astorri fared much better at .450/.476/.700 with 11 RBI in 5 games, including a grand slam against the Paderborn Untouchables. He was 5th in average, led in RBI (3 more than Jair van Borkulo and Luis Gonzalez) and tied Terrell Joyce for second in hits (two behind Delano Selassa). [9] The Parma DH hit .310/.374/.434 with 11 doubles in the 2023 Serie A1. He debuted for the Italian senior team in the 2023 European Championship. His first time up, against Sean Fekete of Hungary, he hit into a two-run error. His first hit was off Benedek Laffer later that game; he wound up scoring 3 runs. He was 1-for-7 with a walk, a steal and those 3 runs for the Euros, with Vito Friscia and Alberto Mineo mostly splitting first base. [10]
