Biographical Information[edit]

Alberto Mineo played for the New Black Panthers in the Italian Serie B in 2010, hitting .308/.473/.446. He was with Italy in the 2010 World Junior Championship, but was their worst hitter (going 2 for 20). He had three passed balls in seven games behind the plate and threw out four of twelve attempted base-stealers. He also attended the MLB European Academy. In August 2010, he signed with the Chicago Cubs; the scouts were Steve Wilson and Bill Holmberg.

Mineo was 3 for 18 with 4 walks, a double and 4 runs as Italy's main catcher in the 2011 European Junior Championship. He made his US debut on July 3, 2012, for the AZL Cubs. In a 8-7 loss to the AZL Brewers, he started behind the plate, batting 6th. He was 0 for 3 with two walks and two runs before leaving for a pinch-runner. He also threw out both runners who tried to steal.
