Biographical Information[edit]

Benedek Laffer has been on the Hungarian national team.

At age 17, he made Hungary's team for the 2021 European Championship Qualifier, going 0-for-3 as a backup at 2B. [1] He was with them for the 2023 European Championship, their first European Championship. He appeared in all six of their games this time, half as a position player and half as a pitcher. In their European Championship debut, he relieved Alex Ogg in the 4th with a 10-1 deficit against Italy, two on and one out. He walked former major leaguer Robel García to load the bases, threw a wild pitch to score a run but struck out Vito Friscia for an out. He then yielded singles to Federico Celli and Cesare Astorri to make it 13-1, walked Sebastiano Poma and struck out Giulio Monello to end the inning. He worked 2 1/3 IP before Viktor Boda relieved and was one of Hungary's better hurlers that day: 2 1/3 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K. His first plate appearance came the next day. Batting for Máté Hodosi against Great Britain, he struck out against Jake Esch. He finished with a 9.64 ERA for his three outings, was 0 for 3 with a HBP and a run and played catcher and second in addition to pitcher (handling nine putouts and allowing two steals). Only Ogg pitched more games for Hungary and he was 4th on their 15-man staff in ERA, between Robert Ogg and Bence Takács. [2]

He signed with Japan's Bibai Black Diamonds of the Hokkaido Frontier League for 2024. [3]
