Mattia Sireus has pitched in Italy and for the Italian national team.
Sireus was 1-0 in the 2021 U23 European Championship, allowing one unearned run in three innings. [1] He made his Serie A1 debut in 2022, going 5-3 with a 2.51 ERA for Big Mat. The next year, he had a 6-3, 3.77 record. He had a 1-0, 2.57 record in the 2023 U23 European Championship. [2]
He then made the Italian team for the 2023 European Championship. He debuted against Great Britain, relieving Michele Quattrini in the 3rd with a 3-1 deficit, two out and two on. He hit Michael Flaherty and walked Kennard Dawson to force in a run then got Rayondre Mercer on a grounder to end the inning. After Britain took a 5-4 lead, he had a solid 4th. Harry Ford singled but Sireus then struck out the side - Nick Ward, Aaron Singh and Ben Leid. He walked Shamoy Christopher to open the 5th and Julian Sanders singled, then Alex Bassani relieved and both runners would score. He finished with a 6.23 ERA for the Euros. [3]
