Biographical Information[edit]

Michael Flaherty has been on the British national team.

Born in the USA, he moved to London when he was 10 years old. [1] He played baseball, basketball and soccer in high school. [2] He was 2-for-11 with five walks, a homer, two runs and two RBI for Britain in the 2021 U23 European Championship, tying David Dinski for 7th in walks. [3]

After playing two games and not batting as a freshman at Grinnell, he hit .294/.417/.480 as a sophomore, driving in 25 runs in 31 games. Playing for the London Mets in the 2022 Federation Cup, he batted .400/.526/.600 with 3 doubles and 7 RBI in 5 games. Only Edison Valerio hit more doubles in the event, and Flaherty led in RBI. [4] His junior year, he slipped to .186/.347/.237.

He hit .417/.611/.500 in the 2023 U23 European Championship, tying for 8th with 5 runs and tying for 5th with 5 hits. [5] He then was with Britain for the 2023 European Championship, where he was their starting third baseman. In the opener against Sweden, he hit 7th and struck out against Ben Johnson his first time up. His first hit came off Hungary's Ádám Piros, part of a three-run game for him. He hit .133/.409/.133 for those Euros, with six walks and six runs in six games as Britain matched their best finish ever (finishing second to [{Spanish national team|Spain]]). He fielded .857. [6]

His senior year, he batted .188/.365/.275.
