Biographical Information[edit]

Ádám Piros has played for the Hungarian national team. His brother Bálint Piros has also played for Hungary while his father Szabolcs Piros managed them. [1]

He played for the Northern Virginia Travel Baseball League in 2018, one of four Hungarians to appear. [2] He was 1 for 8 with a RBI for Hungary in the 2018 C-Level European Championship and allowed two runs in six innings in a no-decision against Estonia. He was 6th in the event in ERA. [3] In the 2021 European Championship Qualifier, he allowed one unearned run in five innings (3 H, 9 BB, 8 K) in a no-decision versus Finland and went 0-for-3. He tied for third in the event in walks. [4]

During the 2022 European Championship Qualifier, he was 3-for-7 with 3 runs and 3 RBI and had a 7.11 ERA despite 8 whiffs in 6 1/3 IP; Hungary won to make it to the 2023 European Championship, their first trip to a European Championship. [5] In the 2023 Euros, he appeared in five of their six games, three as a corner outfielder and two on the mound. In their debut, versus Italy, he replaced Zajzon Házi in right field and struck out against Mattia Aldegheri. His first mound appearance was a start against Silver Medal winner Great Britain. He allowed one run in the first but was roughed up in the second before Peter Gornik relieved; he was charged with 4 hits, 6 walks and 10 runs (all earned) in 1 1/3 IP in a loss to Jake Esch. His first hit was a bunt single off Moisses Pargas of Sweden. His second mound start came versus Greece and indy league veteran Jonathan Kountis. He was a bit better (3 H, 6 BB, 7 R, 6 ER in 2 1/3 IP) before Márk Magas relieved and got a no-decision in a 19-14 slugfest loss. Only Robert Ogg pitched better for Hungary that day. He finished the event 2-for-8 with a walk and a run, handling 3 chances error-free. He tied for the event lead in games started for a pitcher, allowed the most runs (two more than Cedric Desmedt and Kountis), gave up the most earned runs (one more than Desmedt), walked the most (one more than Alex Ogg and Ben Couvreur), tied Jose Diaz for second in wild pitches (4, trailing Alex Ogg) and tied Jonah Schaller and Desmedt for second in hit batsmen (4, one behind Alex Ogg). Despite the high numbers, several Hungarian players pitched worse as three of his staffmates had worse ERAs. [6]
