Biographical Information[edit]

Moisses Pargas has played in Sweden and Nicaragua and for the Swedish national team.

A Venezuelan native, he debuted in Sweden's Elitserien in 2014, going 1-0 for the Sundbyberg Heat with two runs (one earned) in four innings. [1] He was rocked in 2015 (9 H, 5 BB, 3 HB, 6 R in 2/3 IP). [2] In '16, he was 1-2 with a 8.63 ERA. [3]

Pargas made huge strides in 2017, going 3-1 with two saves and a 1.82 ERA, striking out 90 in 49 1/3 IP but walking 27. He was second in ERA, 4th in opponent average (.182), second in strikeouts, tied for 7th in wins and tied for first in saves (with Simon Andersson, Shane Salley and Ben Johnson. [4] He had a 3.95 ERA and no decisions in '18. [5] In 2019, he was 3-0 with a 1.16 ERA and 72 K in 38 2/3 IP, walking 30. He finished second in ERA (.92 behind Eddie Aucoin), allowed the lowest average (.080, .74 ahead of Heorhii Hvrytishvili), was second in strikeouts (47 behind Kieran Moore) and tied for 10th in wins. Remaining one of the Elitserien's elite pitchers in 2020, he was 7-1 with a 0.77 ERA, .101 opponent average and 102 K in 58 1/3 IP. His walk rate fell somewhat, as he issued 33. He led the league in wins (one ahead of Joe Wittig), opponent average (.15 ahead of Wittig), strikeouts (40 ahead of Wittig) and ERA (.71 ahead of Johnson) to get a pitching Triple Crown. That brought his career ERA in Sweden to 2.20 and opponent average to .143. [7] He spent the winter with the Indios del Bóer in the Liga Nicaragüense de Béisbol Profesional. [8] Back in Sweden in '21, he was 6-1 with a 2.49 ERA. He tied for the win lead, led in strikeouts (74, 14 ahead of Erik Marqvardsen) and was 3rd in ERA (behind Oskar Syrén and Johnson). [9]

He pitched for Sweden in the 2021 European Championship. In his debut, he relieved Julius Hopkins in the 9th with a 6-1 deficit against the Czech national team. He retired Petr Čech, Matěj Menšík and Vojtěch Menšík in order. His next game, he relieved Hopkins again, this time with a 9-1 deficit in the 4th versus Germany. He walked Simon Gühring, then Lou Helmig reached on a fielder's choice and Marco Cardoso flew out. Elias von Garßen hit a sacrifice fly then Pargas walked Vincent Ahrens but finished the inning by fanning former minor leaguer Pascal Amon. In the 5th, he went 1-2-3 against Lennard Stöcklin, Shawn Larry and Eric Brenk (K) then Marqvardsen relieved in the 6th. His final outing was against Austria. Taking over for Syrén in the 8th with a 5-0 deficit, he faced Julio Rojas, who reached via error. Pargas struck out Richard Alzinger and Dominik Talir, walked Ferdinand Obed and got Philipp Eckel on a fly. He thus finished the event with one unearned run allowed in four innings (3 BB, 4 K) but no hits, tying Dmitry Shtykher for the most IP in the Euros that year without allowing a hit, 1/3 ahead of Chris Messer.
