Biographical Information

Vincent Ahrens has played in the Bundesliga-1 and for the German national team.

He debuted in the Bundesliga-1 at age 15, going 0 for 1 for his hometown Cologne Cardinals. He hit .167/.310/.208 for them in 2010, making no errors while splitting catching with Florian Nehring. In the 2011 European Junior Championship, he hit .350/.500/.350 for Germany and caught 3 of 5 stealing. He tied for 2nd in the event with 3 steals. In 2012, he moved to the Bonn Capitals as their starting backstop and batted .308/.388/.363 while going 7-for-8 in steals. In 2013, he slumped to .195/.263/.207 but handled 224 chances error-free to lead in fielding.

For 2014, the 20-year-old again made no errors (201 TC) while hitting better (.326/.392/.380) and catching 44% of would-be base-thieves. He was 10th in the Bundesliga-1 north with 30 hits, led in putouts, led in fielding percentage and led in caught stealing percentage (11% ahead of runner-up Dallas Burke). In 2015, he made an error for his first in three seasons, fielding .996. He batted .318/.430/.318 and scored 16 runs in 24 games. He tied for 4th in the league in walks (17), was 10th in OBP and led catchers in fielding percentage yet again.

Ahrens produced at a .287/.347/.402 clip with 19 RBI in 24 games for the 2016 Capitals. He was 5th in the circuit in RBI (between Maurice Wilhelm and Dominik Wulf) and tied for 3rd with 7 doubles. He played for Team Europe in the Asia Winter League. In 2017, he split catching with Bradley Roper-Hubbert, hitting .310/.420/.500 while playing error-free ball.

In 2018, Bonn brought in indy league veteran Jon Marshall to share the catching with Ahrens; Vince again hit well in a part-time role (.309/.368/.544, 21 RBI in 19 G). He tied for 6th in the league with four dingers, was 9th in RBI (between Daniel Hinz and Finn Bergmann), placed 8th in slugging (between Edvardas Matusevicius and Hinz) and was 10th in OPS. Bonn won its first title. He hit .389/.389/.444 for Germany in the 2018 Haarlem Baseball Week. At the 2018 CEB Cup, he had 3 hits and 3 runs in the opening win over the Therwil Flyers and finished at .412/.474/.529 with 5 runs in 5 games.

He also played for Germany in the 2018 Super6 and was a bright spot in a disappointing German squad (1-4). On a team that hit .191/.268/.287, he batted .364/.364/.727. He got the first hit in Super6 history when he singled off Luis Lugo in the 2nd. He got Germany's first run in a Super6 in the 5th, when he doubled off Lugo and came home later on a Maik Ehmcke sacrifice fly, their lone run in a 11-1 loss. The next game, he had their only RBI off Diegomar Markwell when he drove in Simon Gühring. In their lone win, 5-4 over the Czech national team, he scored twice.
