Biographical Information[edit]

Philipp Eckel has played in the Austrian Baseball League and for the Austrian national team.

Eckel hit .275/.327/.385 for the 2017 Traiskirchen Grasshoppers. He tied for 8th in the ABL with seven doubles and led the league with 15 errors. [1] At age 20 the next year, he improved to .327/.414/.505 with 27 runs in 25 games, fielding .924. He tied for 7th with eight doubles and was down to a tie-for-10th in errors. [2] In the 2018 European Championship Playoff, he was 1 for 6 with a walk and four runs as Austria won a spot in the 2019 European Championship. [3]

He remained steady with the '19 Grasshoppers - .329/.486/.500, 28 R in 23 G. He tied Felix Zimmerle, Joachim Frick and Julio Rojas for 3rd in runs, tying Frick for 7th with 21 walks. [4] In the 2019 European Championship, he backed up Frick at 1B. He got into two games. Against Belgium, he grounded out and struck out against Cédric De Smedt before Frick took over. Versus Spain, he ground out against Jorge Balboa, drew a walk from Leslie Nacar and whiffed against Antonio Noguera. He finished the event with 12 putouts and one assist, making no errors. [5]
