Biographical Information[edit]

Shamoy Christopher has played in the independent leagues and for the British national team.

Christopher hit .310 as a freshman at Roane State. [1] The Minnesota Twins took him in the 20th round of the 2016 amateur draft, one round after Sean Poppen. He did not sign and fell to .245 as a sophomore. Transferring to Tennessee Wesleyan, he batted .307/.416/.560 with 41 RBI in 54 games as a junior. He was All-Appalachian Athletic Conference at catcher and made the All-Tournament team for the 2019 NAIA College World Series when TWU won the title. [2] He was at .254/.377/.493 when his senior season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Given an extra year, he returned to hit .301/.452/.545 in 2021.

Signing with the Sioux Falls Canaries that summer, he produced at a .243/.349/.362 clip and fielded .996 behind the dish, but only threw out 12%. He appears to have been the first person born in the British Virgin Islands to play pro ball in the US (Nateshon Thomas had played in Germany). He then joined Britain for the 2021 European Championship. Prior to '21, Thomas was the only British Virgin Islander to play for Great Britain but he was joined in the event by Christopher, Kennard Dawson and Demoi Hodge. [3] He started at catcher and hit 5th in their opener versus France, drawing a walk from Owen Ozanich his first time up. He doubled later off Franklin De La Rosa, reaching in 3 of 4 plate appearances that day. Overall, he hit .316/.480/.421 with three runs and two RBI in six games, fielding .948 and throwing out 2 of 11 who tried to steal as Britain's primary backstop. Only Aaron Singh had a better OBP for Britain. He tied Paolo Brossier and Robin Roevens for 4th in the tourney in times plunked (3) while only Oskar Jerfsten allowed more swipes. [4]
