Biographical Information[edit]
Scott Prins has pitched in the Netherlands, USA, Curaçao and Canada. He has been on the Dutch national team. His brother Connor Prins has also pitched professionally. [1]
He made his Hoofdklasse debut in 2018, going 2-3 with a 2.79 ERA; the rookie was the top starting pitcher for DSS. [2] He had a save and two shutout innings in 2019. He was 1-1 with a 2.79 ERA in the 2019 U-18 Baseball World Cup, losing to Canada's Connor O'Halloran and beating Panama's Israel Mendoza. [3] In 2020, he posted a 3-2, 5.54 record for the Hoofddorp Pioniers. In a COVID-19-shortened season, he tied for 7th in wins and was 10th in K (27). [4]
The right-hander was 6-2 with a 5.05 ERA in US junior college play in 2020-2021. [5] He was 0-1 with a 24.50 ERA in the 2021 U-23 Baseball World Cup, losing to Venezuela's Wikelman Ramírez. [6] In the 2021 Hoofdklasse, he was 4-1 with a 2.06 ERA. Among hurlers with 45+ IP, he was 7th in ERA, between Gio de Graauw and Dennis Burgersdijk. [7]
Moving to the Amsterdam Pirates, he was 1-0 with a 5.08 ERA in the 2022 European Champions Cup. He went three scoreless to outduel Draci Brno's Filip Čapka but the decision went to Mike Groen then he beat Eduardo Peluso and ASD San Marino in the semifinals; Amsterdam lost in the finals to Parma. He tied Shairon Martis and Mike Bolsenbroek for 4th in the Cup with 9 IP. [8] He allowed two runs in 1 1/3 innings in the 2022 Haarlem Baseball Week. [9] During the 2022 U23 Baseball World Cup, he was at 1-1, 4.50. he lost to Mexico's Alemao Hernandez but beat South Africa's Dylan O'Brien. [10] For the 2022 Hoofdklasse, he was 5-1 with a save and a 0.65 ERA for Amsterdam, with a 0.81 WHIP. He lost his only postseason contest. He tied for 10th in the league in wins. Apparently, he did not pitch enough to qualify for the ERA title; Burgersdijk is listed as the leader at 1.17. [11]
Prins made the Dutch team for the 2023 World Baseball Classic but did not get into a game. [12] He had a 7.36 ERA in the 2023 European Champions Cup. [13] He was 4-4 with a save and a 3.19 ERA for Amsterdam in the 2023 Hoofdklasse and was 3-1 in the postseason. Between both rounds, he tied for 9th in victories with Čapka, Lars Huijer and Jelle van der Lelie. [14] He was 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA in the 2023 U23 European Championship, beating the Czech team's David Mergans in a 2-1 duel. The Netherlands won the title. [15] He wrapped up a busy year by going 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA in the Curaçao League. [16]
For the Curaçao Suns in the 2024 Caribbean Series, he was 0-1 with 7 runs (6 earned) in 6 innings, dropping a decision to Luis Martinez and the Tiburones de la Guaira. He tied Manny Barreda and Luis Ramirez for the most earned runs allowed in the Series. He split the summer between the Pirates (3-0, 1.42, 24 K, 1 BB in 19 IP) and the Ottawa Titans (3-4, 5.96) of the Frontier League. While he only pitched three games in the 2024 Hoofdklasse, he had the circuit's lone complete game shutout. He threw five shutout innings when the Netherlands won the 2024 Haarlem Baseball Week, beating Spain's Fernando Baez and topping Yu-Chieh Wang of Taiwan in the title game. He tied Yuya Fujii, Kentaro Shinogi and Jun-Wei Zhang for the event lead in wins and tied for first with three appearances. [17] He made two appearances for the Dutch in the 2024 Premier 12 but did not fare as well. Against Team USA, he was their second-best hurler in a 12-2 loss, after Eric Mendez. Replacing Dylan Farley in the 7th with a 5-2 deficit, the bases loaded and no outs, he allowed a three-run double to Matt Shaw. Luke Ritter singled and Ryan Ward had a sac fly. Carson Williams lined out, Justin Crawford doubled and Prins got Colby Thomas to end the inning. Amsterdam teammate Pim Vijfvinkel took over for him. Facing Venezuela, he outperformed former major leaguer Martis (8 R in 2 2/3 IP) in closing out a 11-0 mercy rule loss. He replaced Juan Carlos Sulbaran in the 6th with a 10-0 deficit and gave up a double to Hernán Pérez. He retired Herlis Rodríguez and Carlos Perez, walked Jermaine Palacios and gave up a RBI double to Dixon Machado. He walked Ehire Adrianza to load the bases but retired Angel Reyes to escape further harm. [18]
