The 2020 Hoofdklasse season was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which shortened leagues worldwide. Games did not begin until July 25 and the Holland Series did not begin until mid-October; about half as many regular-season games as usual were played. The Series itself was halted after two games due to increase restrictions, meaning that for the first time in its 99 years, there was no declared league champion (the Dutch Baseball and Softball Federation opted not to declare Amsterdam the winner; they led the Series 2 games to 0 when it was halted).
With COVID cancelling the minor leagues and independent leagues in the US, several players appeared in the Hoofdklasse who otherwise might have been in the US, such as Royals farmhand Darryl Collins. Two former major leaguers showed up as Roger Bernadina returned after a long absence in the US and Asia, and Shairon Martis appeared; neither made a big impact, Bernadina hitting .286 and Martis posting a 2.63 ERA in 11 relief appearances.
Rob Cordemans continued to rewrite the history book. The 45-year-old reached 200 career wins; the record before him had been 150. He also did the bulk of the work in the first playoff no-hitter.
