Biographical information[edit]

Infielder Jermaine Palacios played his first two major league games on the same day, as he started both ends of a doubleheader for the Minnesota Twins against the Detroit Tigers on May 31, 2022. Playing shortstop, he went 0 for 3 with a walk and a run scored in the opener, and 1 for 3 in the second game. His first big league hit was a single off Joey Wentz.

He was originally signed by the Twins as an international amateur free agent on September 6, 2013. he played in their system from 2014 to 2017, then on February 17, 2018, was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in return for starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi. He was in the Rays system for two seasons, in 2018 and 2019, splitting both years between the Class A Charlotte Stone Crabs and AA Montgomery Biscuits. However, he hit .217 and .210 those two seasons and after being forced into inactivity when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the minor leagues in 2020, he became a free agent. The Twins signed him the following February and he spent 2021 in AA with the Wichita Wind Surge. He had a good season, batting .259/.341/.439 with 19 homers and 54 RBIs in 110 games and was at AAA for the first time at the start of the 2022 season. He was hitting .262 in 39 games with the St. Paul Saints when the Twins called him up to the Show for the first time.
