Biographical Information

Pablo Guillén has pitched in the Cuban Serie Nacional (where he won a ERA title), independent leagues, Venezuelan League, Italian Serie A1 and German Bundesliga as well for the Spanish national team. He is the son of Blas Guillén.

He was 0-1 with a save and a 0.63 ERA for Cuba in the 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup, tying Nick Pratto and Josh Burgmann for 8th in IP (14 1/3). He debuted in Cuba with the Naranjas de Villa Clara in 2016-2017, going 2-1 with two saves and a 3.92 ERA. In 2017-2018, he was one of Cuba's top relievers at 3-1, 1.04 with four saves. He was 7-3 with a save and a 3.43 ERA in 2018-2019, mostly used as a starter. He had odd stats for Cuba in the 2019 Canadian-American Association: 16 H, 7 BB in 9 2/3 IP but only 2 R (1 ER), going 1-0.

The right-hander had a 3-1, 2.32 record for Villa Clara in 2019-2020. He was 4-3 with a save and a 2.52 ERA for them in 2020-2021, leading the league in ERA (.11 ahead of Yoen Socarrás) <bef> Beisbolcubano </ref> but lost All-Star RHP honors to Frank Madan. He came to the US to visit his father, who had left Cuba, and decided to stay with him there. Signing with Parma in Italy, he was with them for the 2023 European Champions Cup. He went six shutout to beat Nicolas Gobert and the Paderborn Untouchables in their opener (Matteo Bocchi closed it out). In the title game, he allowed one run and struck out seven in five batters and was outdueling Kaj Timmermans of HCAW, 2-1, but Danny Rondón and Carlos Contreras failed to hold on in relief and his team wound up with a 11-4 loss. He tied former major leaguer Juan Jaime for third in the tournament with 12 K and tied Lars Huijer for second in IP.

In the 2023 Serie A1, he went 5-3 with a 3.54 ERA. He suited up for Spain in the 2023 European Championship. Against the host Czech national team, he allowed only one hit in five innings (to Martin Červenka) while walking none and striking out seven to beat Marek Minařík; fellow Cuban Carlos Sierra took over. Spain then went with him in the title match versus Great Britain. He was nearly as sharp, again allowing one hit in five (this time a homer to Nick Ward) with two walks, two runs and five strikeouts; Sierra again relieved and Pablo again got the win, beating Austin Hassani. Spain won their first European Championship title since 1955. He tied Alex Webb and Jose Diaz for 7th in the Euros in K that year and he tied for the win lead with Tomáš Ondra, Ondřej Satoria, James Sanders, Chris Messer and Carlos García. Following the season, he had a forgettable account with the Navegantes del Magallanes in Venezuela (2 H, 3 BB, 4 R, 2 ER in 1 IP; 0-1).

He moved to Germany's Regensburg Legionäre for 2024. He pitched for Spain in the 2024 Haarlem Baseball Week, losing to Jun-Wei Zhang and Taiwan and getting a no-decision versus Italy but he allowed no earned runs (two unearned) in 7 2/3 IP for the event. He was 10th in innings, 5th in ERA (four hurlers with more IP were also at 0.00) and tied for 8th with 8 K.
