Biographical Information[edit]

Alex Webb was drafted in 2016.

Webb was 3-4 with 3 saves and a 4.81 ERA in college in 2014. He pitched for the British national team in the 2014 European Championship, going 0-1 with a 2.51 ERA. He was their second-youngest player; catcher Dexter Stewart was younger. Webb lost in a start against Belgium, outdueled by Cedric Desmedt. He relieved Jake Esch in the 8th with a perfect game in progress against Croatia and walked Nikola Sertić to end the perfecto but left in the 9th with the no-hitter intact; Daniel Cooper relieved him and allowed a hit but kept the shutout.

In 2014-2015, he was much better at 10-3, 2.15 with 97 K in 88 IP in college. The San Diego Padres took him in the 36th round of the 2015 amateur draft but he returned to UBC. In 2015-2016, he was excellent at 10-1, 1.38 with 115 K and only 56 H and 15 BB in 104 1/3 IP. He was named the NAIA West Pitcher of the Year. The Cincinnati Reds chose him in the 9th round of the 2016 amateur draft and this time he signed. The scout was Bill Byckowski. He split the summer between the Billings Mustangs (4-0, 0.79 in 5 G) and Dayton Dragons (1-2, 4.15 in 3 G). In 2017, he itched for Dayton (1-4, 2 Sv, 4.84 in 12 G) and the AZL Reds (3.52 in 3 G).
