Ryan Huntington has pitched in the Hoofdklasse and for the Dutch national team.
He was 5-2 with a 8.59 ERA in junior college in 2015. [1] Transferring to Grambling State, he had a 3-1, 7.79 record in 2018 and 5-2, 7.10 in 2019. Pitching for Aruba in the 2019 Caribbean Baseball Cup, he lost to the US Virgin Islands. [2] He was 3-5 with a 4.03 ERA for the Hoofddorp Pioniers in the 2021 Hoofdklasse regular season. He tied Orlando Yntema and Naut Kragt for 6th in the league in wins, tied for 7th in losses, tied for 5th in starts, was 5th in IP (76, between Nelmerson Angela and Glenn Wassink) and was 7th with 53 K (between Angela and Kragt). Moving to the Twins Oosterhout for 2022, he had a 5-10, 3.86 record for the year. He tied for 10th in wins, was second to Darryl Jamoena in losses, tied Koen Postelmans and Kaj Timmermans for 4th in starts (16), trailed only Lars Huijer and Dennis Burgersdijk in innings and was 3rd with 87 K (behind Huijer and Shairon Martis). He walked only 19. [4] He had a 3.00 ERA for the WildCats KJ74 in the 2023 Caribbean Series.
Pitching for the Netherlands in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, he got into one game. He relieved Derek West with a 6-2 deficit in the 3rd against Taiwan, two on and one away. He allowed a RBI single to Tsung-Che Chung but struck out Li Lin and got Tzu-Wei Lin to end the inning. In the 4th, Yu Chang singled and Nien-Ting Wu hit into a force. Giljegiljaw Kungkuan doubled but Wu was thrown out trying to score. Chieh-Hsien Chen tripled to make it 8-2 then Huntington whiffed Po-Jung Wang. Juan Carlos Sulbaran replaced him in the 5th. [5] Switching Hoofdklasse clubs again, he was with Neptunus in 2023. He was 6-1 with two saves and a 2.70 ERA as a key part of the bullpen as the team went to the 2023 Holland Series before falling to the Amsterdam Pirates. For the year, he was second in games pitched (29, 5 behind Aaron de Groot). [6]
Huntington pitched six shutout innings for the Netherlands in the 2024 Haarlem Baseball Week, tying for the event lead with three appearances. He did not lead the Dutch staff; Shairon Martis and Tom de Blok were also at 0.00, in more innings. [7] He was 3-2 with 8 saves and a 1.09 ERA for the 2024 Hoofdklasse, including a title in the 2024 Holland Series. He led the league with 31 games pitched (3 ahead of Sedley Karel and Jasper Popken) and in saves (two ahead of Raf Cocu). [8] He then was back in a Netherlands uniform, for the 2024 Premier 12.
