Biographical Information[edit]

Nelmerson Angela has been a pitcher.

Angela was signed by New York Mets scouts Sendly Reina, Hector Rincones, Harold Herrera and Chris Becerra in May 2015. [1] He was 2-1 with a save and a 2.70 ERA for the 2015 DSL Mets 1. In '16, he pitched for the DSL Mets 1 and DSL Mets 2, going a combined 3-0 with two saves, a 1.88 ERA and .89 WHIP. Despite that success, he remained in the Dominican Summer League in 2017 (2-0, 1.90 for the DSL Mets 2) and 2018 (3-1, Sv, 2.37 ERA, .79 WHIP for the DSL Mets 1), never getting a look at US ball. He was on the Dutch national team designated pitcher pool for the 2017 World Baseball Classic but was not activated. [2] He posted a 9.64 ERA in two games for the Netherlands in the 2018 U-23 Baseball World Cup. [3]

He had a 8.31 ERA for Curacao in the 2019 World Port Tournament. [4] Pitching for them in the 2021 Caribbean Baseball Cup, he beat Peru. [5] That summer, he was 3-6 with a 4.75 ERA for the Silicon Starks in the Hoofdklasse. He was 6th in losses, 8th in IP (77 2/3),m tied for 8th in walks (44), 8th in runs allowed (50), 9th in K (58, between Shairon Martis and Glenn Wassink) and led with 10 balks. [6]

The left-hander had a busy 2022. In the 2022 European Champions Cup, he pitched for the L&D Amsterdam Pirates. He shut out Heidenheim Heideköpfe for five innings but allowed three runs in two against champion Parma. [7] With Curacao in the 2022 Haarlem Baseball Week, he was 1-1 with a 2.33 ERA, losing to Japan and beating the US. He was 6th in IP (9), led with 9 walks and tied for the most appearances (3). [8] He was 4-0 with a 2.80 ERA for the Pirates in the 2022 Hoofdklasse regular season. Only J.C. Sulbaran and Dennis Burgersdijk had more wins. [9] Finally, he came up big for Curacao in the 2022 Caribbean Baseball Cup, pitching four shutout (1 H, 5 BB) against the Bahamas then beating them with a complete game (fanning ten, walking none this time) in the Bronze Medal game to win a spot for his team in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games. Only Jordan Lucas worked more innings in the event and he led in K (3 ahead of Freddie Cabrera). [10]

Pitching for the WildCats KJ74 in the 2023 Caribbean Series, he allowed one run in five innings of relief in the team's 3-1 loss to the Indios de Mayagüez. He had the best ERA of any Curacao hurler to work at least five innings. In the 2023 European Champions Cup, he gave up two runs in five in a no-decision against Parma in his team's 7-5 loss. [11] He had a 2-2, 2.48 record for Amsterdam in the 2023 Hoofdklasse regular season and 1-1, 4.05 in the postseason. In the 2023 Holland Series, he allowed one run in seven to beat Kevin Kelly and Neptunus in Game 2 but lasted only 2 2/3 IP in a Game 4 loss to Martis. He worked 1 1/3 shutout innings of relief of Scott Prins in Game 6 to allow Amsterdam to tie the Series. In Game 7, he relieved Maickel Rietel in the 3rd with a 4-4 tie, two on and no outs; he allowed a two-run triple then balked in a run. He allowed only one run over the next six, though, and Amsterdam rallied to give him the win over Aaron de Groot. He tied de Groot and Prins for the Series lead in wins, tied Kelly and de Groot for the most games pitched, was 3rd in IP (behind Prins and Kelly) and was 4th with 7 K. [12] The Series MVP went to Jorrit Penseel.
