Jorrit Penseel was a surprising MVP of the 2023 Holland Series.
He debuted for the Hoofddorp Pioniers in the 2018 Hoofdklasse, going 3-for-15 with two walks. In 2019, he hit .186/.263/.209, followed by .214/.353/.250 in 2020. Becoming a regular, he hit .228/.345/.268 in 2021, fielding .971 as a corner infielder. He was steady at .221/.349/.269 in 2022, with 22 walks in 35 games.
when Kalian Sams retired from the Amsterdam Pirates, Denzel Richardson moved from first to the outfield and Amsterdam picked up Penseel to play first. He was 4 for 12 with two runs and a RBI in the 2023 European Champions Cup. [1] He hit .230/.325/.299, fielding .993 despite seeing some action at 2B and 3B in addition to 1B. [2] He saved his best for last; in Game 7 of the 2023 Holland Series, he hit a three-run double off Kevin Kelly. With the game tied at 8 in the 8th, the #9 hitter singled off Mike Groen to score Jules Cremer with the Series winner. He won Series MVP. [3]
