Biographical Information[edit]

Maickel Rietel has pitched in the Hoofdklasse.

In the 2012 World Junior Championship, he was 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA for the Netherlands, losing to the US's Garrett Williams and Australia's Dean Aldridge. [1] During the 2014 U21 Baseball World Cup, he was 0-1 with a 0.79 ERA in three games, losing to Venezuela. [2] He made his Hoofdklasse debut that year, going 4-7 with a 3.72 ERA. He tied teammate Iván Granados for 4th in the 2014 Hoofdklasse in losses. [3]

Rietel went 2-9 with a 4.00 ERA for HCAW in 2015, tying for the league lead in losses. [4] Moving to the Vaessen Pioniers for 2016, he improved to 5-1, 2.47. He was among the leaders in ERA (10th), opponent average (.197, 6th) and games pitched (30, 1st, two ahead of Daan Hendrix). [5]

During 2017, he was 2-1 with four saves and a 1.93 ERA for the Pioniers. He tied Tim Halderman for 7th with 17 games pitched and tied for the league lead in saves (even with Hendrix, Oscar Meuris, Misja Harcksen, Sedley Karel and Berry van Driel). [6] In the 2017 U23 European Championship, he was 1-0 with no runs allowed in 5 2/3 IP, beating Belgium's Kyran Weemaels. [7] He had a 10.50 ERA in four outings in the 2018 U23 Baseball World Cup. [8] Rietel was with the L&D Amsterdam Pirates that summer. He allowed one run in four innings in the 2018 European Champions Cup. His three games pitched were one shy of tourney leader Kevin Kelly. [9] In the 2018 Hoofdklasse, he was 2-2 with a 2.79 ERA; his 22 appearances were 5th in the league, 2nd on his team behind Jim Ploeger. [10] He allowed one run in 2/3 IP in the 2018 Holland Series as the Pirates lost to Neptunus. [11]

Maickel allowed one hit and retired one in the 2019 European Champions Cup. [12] He walked only 3 in 29 2/3 IP in the 2019 Hoofdklasse, going 1-0 with a save and a 1.21 ERA. [13] The Pirates and Neptunus had a rematch in the 2019 Holland Series. He had a 4.91 ERA in two outings; Amsterdam won this time. [14] He did not appear in 2020 and was 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in one game for the RCH-Pinguïns in 2021. [15] He then did not appear in 2022.

Returning to Amsterdam, he pitched a shutout inning in the 2023 European Champions Cup. [16] He was 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA in the 2023 Hoofdklasse, including the postseason, as Amsterdam won the 2023 Holland Series. [17]
