Biographical Information[edit]
Daniel Jiménez has played for teams from the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, USA, Mexico and Panama as well as for the Spanish national team.
He was signed by Cincinnati Reds scout Jose Fuentes in October 2012. [1] He hit .266/.320/.351 with five triples and 18 steals in 25 tries for the 2013 DSL Rojos. With the same team a year later, he fell to .222/.269/.298. He was 0 for 2 that winter for the Águilas del Zulia. Back with the DSL Rojos in 2015, he put on a nice show at .337/.403/.500 with 58 runs, 17 doubles, 5 triples and 15 steals in 67 games. He was among the Dominican Summer League leaders in runs (tied Anthony Concepcion for 6th), hits (6th), total bases (129, tied Stanley Espinal for 1st), average (9th, between Mecky Coronado and Luis Rengifo), slugging (tied Tomas De Los Santos for 6th), OPS (tied Randel Alcantara and Edgar Rondon for 6th). [2] He was named a DSL post-season All-Star. [3]
Coming stateside, he batted .284/.350/.367 for the AZL Reds to end his time in the Reds' chain. He hit .382/.386/.436 in 57 plate appearances for the Diablos Rojos del México in the spring 2018 season and .319/.347/.362 in the summer season as the Mexican League went to a double schedule for the first time (they would return to one season in 2019). He played for Venezuela in the 2018 U-23 Baseball World Cup and batted .133/.188/.200 as their main right fielder. [4] With the 2019 Diablos Rojos, he was at .312/.333/.384, backing up Iván Terrazas in left field. The 2020 season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2021, he hit .294/.347/.324 for the Diablos Rojos then was traded with Heriberto Morales, Hector Hernandez and Yapson Gómez to the Guerreros de Oaxaca. [5] Playing for Spain in the 2021 European Championship, he started in left field. In the opener, facing Sergii Shtapura in the first, he reached on an error by Kostiantyn Chukhas then had a RBI double off Danyil Khodakovskyi the next time up. He finished the day 3-for-4 with 3 runs. For the tourney, he hit .292/.280/.375 with four RBI in six games, fielding .923 with one assist. [6] He was 1 for 5 with 3 runs for the Astronautas de Los Santos in the 2022 Caribbean Series.
