Biographical Information[edit]

Elio Silva has pitched in the Dominican Republic, USA, Vemezuela and Spain (where he won a pitching Triple Crown) and has been on the Spanish national team.

Originally signed by the Toronto Blue Jays, he was 1-1 with a 1.62 ERA in five games for the 2015 DSL Blue Jays. With the same team a year later, he had a 4-2, 2.05 record with a .995 WHIP. He led his team in ERA. Coming stateside, he was 4-2 with a 3.77 ERA for the Bluefield Blue Jays in 2017, walking only five in 45 1/3 IP. He tied for 8th in the Appalachian League in wins.

Silva was 3-4 with a 3.82 ERA for the '18 Vancouver Canadians. He was 5th in the Northwest League in ERA, between Seth Nordlin and Angel Acevedo. [1] Despite a 12-9, 3.04 record as a pro, his time in the Jays chain was now over. He was roughed up with the Tigres de Aragua in the 2018-2019 Venezuelan Winter League, surrendering 7 runs in 1 2/3 IP.

He signed with San Inazio Bilbao in Spain for 2019. He had a superb first year there at 10-0, 1.91 with 134 K in 99 IP. He led the Division de Honor in ERA (.80 ahead of runner-up Jorge Balboa), was second in opponent average (.193), was second in innings (13 behind Kerson Trinidad), led in Ks (18 ahead of Balboa), led in wins (one ahead of Leslie Nacar and Balboa), tied Trinidad for second in complete games (5) and tied for first with one shutout as he got a pitching Triple Crown. [2]

After another poor winter with the Tigres (0-1, 9.39, 17 H in 7 2/3 IP), he again was dazzling in Spain. He was 6-0 with a 1.91 ERA in '20, a season shortened by COVID-19. He whiffed 98 in 58 1/3 innings. He won another ERA title (.09 ahead of Yulman Ribeiro), was 3rd in opponent average (.192), ranked third in IP, led in whiffs again (5 ahead of Balboa) and was third in wins (one behind co-leaders Eduardo Miliani and Yosvany Torres), just missing out on a repeat Triple Crown. [3] He allowed four runs in four innings for Aragua in 2020-2021.

In 2021, the Division de Honor was renamed the Spanish Baseball League. Elio was not as dominant, going 8-3 with a 2.77 ERA and 105 K in 78 IP for San Inazio Bilbao, his opponent average up to .237. He was still among numerous leaderboards: ERA (4th, between Balboa and Ribeiro), opponent average (6th), innings (1st), complete games (5, 1st), shutouts (2, 1st), strikeouts (1st, 12 ahead of Balboa) and wins (tied Lowuin Sacramento for 2nd, one behind Balboa). [4]

The southpaw was 10-2 with a 1.88 ERA in 2022. He tied Roy Hernández for the win lead, was third in ERA (after Yeudy García and Ronald Medrano), led in IP (86) and was 4th in whiffs (between Roy Hernández and Ricardo Hernández). [5] He was on Spain's team for the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers as they only used 10 of their 14 hurlers. [6]
