1955 Hall of Fame Election
In the 1955 Hall of Fame Election, 189 of 251 votes were needed for election to the Hall of Fame. This was the last time four players were voted in by the BBWAA until the 2015 Hall of Fame Election.
In addition to the four players elected, 12 of the next 13 players in order of finish on the ballot would eventually gain admission to Cooperstown. The exception is Hank Gowdy, whose vote total was boosted by respect for his military service in both World Wars, but whose on-field credentials were short of Hall of Fame standards.
