Casey Stengel Rule
In 1966, the Baseball Hall of Fame amended the rules for election for those older than 65 years old. Anyone eligible for election who is over age 65 is eligible for election six months after retirement rather than the customary five years. This rule was enacted for Casey Stengel who retired in 1965 at age 75. More recently, the rule was invoked in 1997 for the election of Tommy Lasorda.
