Biographical Information

Shortstop Everett Scott played in 1307 consecutive games, which was the record until Lou Gehrig came along. He began the streak on June 20, 1916, while playing for the Boston Red Sox. Following the 1921 season, he was traded to the New York Yankees as part of the flurry of unequal trades between the two teams. On May 6, 1925, he was benched in favor of Pee Wee Wanninger. Ironically, less than a month later, teammate Gehrig began his own streak when he entered a game as a pinch-hitter for Wanninger. Scott's streak is still the third longest streak behind Cal Ripken and Gehrig.

He used a very unusual glove, made specially for him. It was very narrow, with unusually long fingers and no padding.

Scott was inducted into the Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame in 1986.

Notable Achievements

• Won four World Series with the Boston Red Sox (1915, 1916 & 1918) and the New York Yankees (1923)
