1940 Hall of Fame Election
No one was elected in the 1940 Hall of Fame Election, the first time that took place. Nine people had been voted in 1939 but the BBWAA was now voting every three years and the Old-Timers Committee did not meet in 1940. This began a period of a backlog, as Rogers Hornsby was the only player picked by the BBWAA (1942) between 1939 and 1947 and the Old-Timers Commitee did not pick anyone from 1940-1943 before opening the barn doors wide with many questionable picks.
