1944 Hall of Fame Election
There was no vote by the BBWAA in the 1944 Hall of Fame Election, as the group only held a ballot every three years at that time. However, the Permanent Committee, ancestor of the Veterans Committee elected recently-deceased Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis to the Hall in a special election.
Contrary to the 12 players elected between the special election that elected Lou Gehrig in 1939 and 1945, Commissioner Landis did receive a proper induction ceremony. He was honored as part of the ceremony for the Class of 1946, whereas the twelve players would not get one until 2013.
