Veterans Committee[edit]

In the first election of the new Veterans Committee made up of Hall of Fame players, broadcasters and writers as well as members of the former version of the Veterans Committee whose terms had not expired was held in 2003. After a screening committee narrowed down lists of 200 players and 60 executives, managers and umpires down to 25 players and 15 others the ballots were sent out to the new voters. A group of Hall of Famers then were able to add one player to the players ballot to raise its total to 26. Both ballots still needed 75% approval to be elected. 81 ballots were cast for players and 79 were cast for the composite ballot. No one would be elected from either ballot.
