The Beloit Snappers are a former Midwest League franchise, now part of the High-A Central, whose nickname salutes snapping turtles, inspired by a turtle-shaped mound tribal people built on what is now the Beloit College campus. Beloit had a team in the Midwest League from 1982 through the 2019 season, prior to the reorganization of the minor leagues during the 2020-21 off-season. Before becoming the Snappers, they had been the Beloit Brewers. In 2005, the team became an affiliate of the Minnesota Twins.
Beloit was in danger of losing its team altogether as part of the reorganization, until the longtime city-owned club was acquired in 2020 by Pensacola Blue Wahoos owner Quint Studer, who originally hails from nearby Janesville, WI. They thus joined the High-A Central, constituted largely from former Midwest League teams, at the start of 2021 as an affiliate of the Miami Marlins. The team expects to move into a new stadium in downtown Beloit on August 3rd.
