Biographical Information[edit]
Third baseman Rick Magnante played 35 games for the 1969 Reno Silver Sox. He hit just .135/.179/.216 with 23 strikeouts in 74 at-bats.
Magnante managed the South African team in the 2006 World Baseball Classic, 2007 Baseball World Cup, 2008 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament, 2009 World Baseball Classic and 2009 Baseball World Cup. In 1990, he was head coach for Novara in Serie A1. Magnante also appeared in the 1996 movie "The Fan" as the Giants' third base coach. He was an area scout for the Oakland Athletics from 1996-2005. His involvement in African baseball continued with a coaching stint in the inaugural MLB African Academy in 2011. He later scouted for the A's again, signing Scott Masik.
Magnante moved out of the manager's chair for the first time in 14 years when was bench coach for the Vermont Lake Monsters in 2019.
