Nippon Professional Baseball[edit]
The first television broadcast of games occurs. Leo Kiely, who pitched for the Boston Red Sox in 1951, becomes the first former major league player to appear in NPB when he plays for the Mainichi Orions while performing his military service in Japan. He will return to the major leagues in 1954.

All-Star Game[edit]
The NPB All-Star Game featured three games and was won by the Pacific League two games to one. The first game was played at Korakuen Baseball Stadium and was won by the PL, 2 - 0. The second game was played at Koshien Baseball Stadium and was won by the CL, 2 - 0. The third game was played at Chunichi Stadium and was won by the PL, 3 - 0.
Postseason[edit]
In the Nippon Series, the Yomiuri Giants (CL) defeated the Nankai Hawks (PL), 4 games to 2 with one tie. It was the Giants' third consecutive title, with all three being won over the Hawks. The winning manager was Shigeru Mizuhara and the series MVP was Tetsuharu Kawakami.
Award Winners[edit]
The winner of the 1953 Sawamura Award was Takumi Otomo of the Yomiuri Giants. He had a 27 - 6 win-loss record, 173 strikeouts, and a 1.85 ERA in 281.1 innings.

High School Baseball[edit]
The 35th National High School Baseball Championship featured a total of 1701 schools competing for 23 spots in the finals at Koshien. In the championship game Matsuyama Shogyo High School (Ehime) defeated Tosa High School (Kochi) by a score of 3 - 2.
The 25th National High School Baseball Invitational Tournament featured 19 schools competing in the tournament at Koshien. In the championship game Sumoto High School (Hyogo) defeated Naniwa Shogyo High School (Osaka) by a score of 4 - 1.

All-Japan University Baseball Championship Series[edit]
The 1953 All-Japan University Baseball Championship Series featured 9 schools competing in the tournament at Meiji-Jingu Stadium. In the championship game Rikkyo University defeated Chuo University by a score of 6 - 2.

The Eddie Lopat All-Stars toured Japan in the fall of 1953. The touring team went 11 - 1 - 0 against Japanese competition. The New York Giants toured Japan in the fall of 1953. The touring team went 12 - 1 - 1 against Japanese competition
