The 2009 First-Year Player Draft was the forty-fifth Major League Baseball amateur draft. It was held from June 9 to June 11, 2009, the first time the draft was done over a three-day period. The Washington Nationals had the first selection. They were also the first team to ever have two top 10 selections, as a result of failing to sign their top draft pick in the previous year's draft.

Draft Notes[edit]
In a rare situation, three players who won the College World Series Most Outstanding Player were picked - 17th rounder Jorge Reyes won in 2007 as a freshman, 2nd rounder Tommy Mendonca won in 2008 as a sophomore and Jared Mitchell would pick up the award in the 2009 College World Series a couple of weeks after being a first-round pick.
