Biographical Information

Kentrail Davis was a first-round pick in 2009.

Davis hit .293 as a sophomore in high school and stole 24 bases. As a junior in 2006, he batted .444 with 34 steals and was picked for the AFLAC All-America High School Baseball Classic, in which he scored twice for the East team. Louisville Slugger named him Alabama'a High School Player of the Year in 2007. He missed part of the year due to a car accident. The Colorado Rockies took him in the 14th round of the 2007 amateur draft but he opted for college.

Davis hit .330/.435/.583 as a freshman with 13 homers, more than Todd Helton hit as a Tennessee freshman. He was second-team All-Southeastern Conference and was named a Freshman All-American by Baseball America. He was also the only freshman to be one of the 50 semifinals for the Golden Spikes Award. He was on Team USA that summer, going 0 for 2 with two walks and a run in the 2008 Haarlem Baseball Week. He was not with the USA for their main event, the 2008 World University Championship.

As a sophomore in 2009, the center fielder batted .308/.424/.528. The Milwaukee Brewers picked him 39th overall in the 2009 amateur draft; the choice was compensation for the loss of CC Sabathia via free agency. He was signed by scout Joe Mason for $1.2 million.

Davis made his pro debut in fine fashion on April 8, 2010 for the Brevard County Manatees. Playing center field and hitting third, he went 2 for 3 with a walk and a RBI in an Opening Day win versus Daytona.
