Biographical information

Jorge Reyes is a pitcher who is most notable for winning the 2007 College World Series Most Outstanding Player award while a freshman at Oregon State University. He is one of two players from Oregon State University to win that award - the other is Jonah Nickerson.

As a junior in high school, he went 9-0 with a 0.40 ERA, striking out 101 batters in 51 innings. As a senior, Reyes went 6-1 with a 0.32 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 43 2/3 innings of work.

Reyes graduated from high school in 2006, and began his career with Oregon State University the next year. With OSU in 2007, he went 7-3 with a 3.10 ERA in 24 games (11 starts). At the end of 2007, he was named a second team freshman All American by Baseball America. In 2008, he went 4-3 with a 7.08 ERA in 14 games started.

Reyes was 6-2 with a save and a 4.20 ERA as a junior. The San Diego Padres chose him in the 17th round of the 2009 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Andrew Salvo and made his pro debut that summer with the Eugene Emeralds, going 1-1 with a 1.38 ERA in 3 starts. With the Lake Elsinore Storm in 2010, he was 8-4 with a 5.00 ERA in 18 games (15 starts) and in 2011, he was 10-3 with a 3.12 ERA in 33 games (20 starts). He reached Triple-A for the first time in 2012, going 10-11 with a 5.09 ERA in 34 games (24 starts) for the Tucson Padres - he also pitched his first professional complete game and save that year. In 2013, also with Tucson, he was 6-3 with a 5.28 ERA.

He began 2014 in the Padres system, but was sent to the Atlanta Braves partway through the campaign for cash considerations. He played for the El Paso Chihuahuas, Mississippi Braves and Gwinnett Braves that year, going a combined 4-6 with a 3.33 ERA in 51 games. With Mississippi and Gwinnett in 2015, he went 6-9 with a 4.46 mark in 33 games (eight starts). The hurler split 2016 between three teams, the independent Les Capitales de Quebec and the Toros de Tijuana and Piratas de Campeche of the Mexican League. Between the Mexican League clubs, he was 5-4 with a 4.62 ERA in 16 games (10 starts). He earned a win in his lone game with Quebec. With the Sultanes de Monterrey in 2017, he was 4-3 with a 3.97 ERA in 12 games (11 starts). He played for two Mexican League teams in 2018, going 7-1 with a 2.57 ERA in 16 games. With the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos in 2019, he went 1-3 with a 9.64 ERA in 18 2/3 frames.

At all levels, including his time in winter ball, he went 67-56 with a 4.17 ERA in 306 games (128 starts) over 11 seasons.

His brother Arturo Reyes has also pitched professionally.
