Team History[edit]
The Tucson Padres joined the Pacific Coast League in 2011, replacing the Portland Beavers as the San Diego Padres' AAA affiliate. The team was purchased by a group headed by Padres' CEO Jeff Moorad in December 2010. The team signed a one-year lease at Kino Stadium (formerly Tucson Electric Park) for 2011, which was renewed for 2012 and 2013 while the team worked to find a permanent home. The original plan was to move the team to Escondido, CA. When a ballpark could not get approved in Escondido the team was instead moved to El Paso, TX following the 2013 season and became the El Paso Chihuahuas.
