Biographical Information[edit]
Jeff Moorad spent many years as a sports agent, representing Manny Ramirez, Will Clark, Shawn Green, Steve Young, and Warren Moon among others.
In 2005, Moorad became a partial owner and executive of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
In 2009, Moorad agreed to become the lead partner in a group that would buy the San Diego Padres from John Moores. He acquired 49% of the team's shares and was named the team's Chief Executive Officer. On March 22, 2012 Moorad stepped down as CEO of the Padres, feeling that he would not be able to get the support of other owners to approve the sale to him. However, he kept the title of Vice-President in charge of developing the Padres' relationship with Fox Sports San Diego. The speculation at the time was that he was to use the position to negotiate a television deal that would bring enough additional capital to allow him to make a new bid to buy out Moores' shares. However, instead, another group, led by former Los Angeles Dodgers owner Peter O'Malley and San Diego businessman Ron Fowler, emerged as frontrunners to buy the team.
