Biographical Information[edit]
The brother of minor leaguer Jessie Mier, shortstop Jiovanni Mier was selected by the Houston Astros in the first round of the 2009 amateur draft with the 21st overall pick. He was signed by scout Doug Deutsch for a $1.385 million bonus and made his debut that summer with the Greeneville Astros and then spent the next season with the Lexington Legends. He began 2011 back with Lexington before being promoted to the Lancaster JetHawks in June.
