Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Chad James was selected by the Florida Marlins in the first round of the 2009 amateur draft with the 18th overall pick. He was signed by scout Ryan Wardinsky for $1.7 million and made his pro debut in 2010 with the Greensboro Grasshoppers, going 5-10 with a 5.12 ERA in 24 starts. He began the 2011 campaign with the Jupiter Hammerheads.

In November of 2015, Major League Baseball announced that he was being suspended for 100 games after having tested positive for amphetamines and for a drug of abuse during the season. It was his second suspension and he was a free agent at the time, his career having stalled in recent years, forcing him to start 2014 with the Evansville Otters of the independent Frontier League before signing with the Texas Rangers. In 2015, he had pitched 13 games in relief for the Frisco RoughRiders of the AA Texas League, with no record and an ERA of 4.81, the highest level he had reached.

His brother, Justin James, pitched in the majors.
