Biographical Information[edit]

Bobby Borchering was signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks and scout Ray Blanco as the first round pick in the 2009 amateur draft with the 16th overall pick. Originally a third baseman, he made his pro debut that summer with the Missoula Osprey. With the South Bend Silver Hawks the next year, he hit .270 with 15 home runs and 74 RBIs. He began the 2011 campaign with the Visalia Rawhide, where he played 135 games, hitting .267/.332/.469, with 29 doubles and 24 homers, splitting time between first base and left field. He was back at Visalia to start 2012, and played 81 games there, improving his batting line to .277/.340/.534, with 23 doubles and 18 homers as a full-time outfielder. He was then promoted to the AA Mobile Bay Bears, but was hitting only .130 in 21 games when on July 29th, he was traded to the Houston Astros alongside Marc Krauss for 3B Chris Johnson. Ironically, Johnson had attended the same high school as Borchering, but had remained a third baseman.
