Team History[edit]
The Visalia Rawhide, of the Single-A California League and briefly in Low-A West, evoke TV's Rawhide and other westerns with their theme song and ranch brand-like logo. The Arizona Diamondbacks farmhands play their home games at Valley Strong Ballpark in Visalia, CA.
The Visalia Oaks became the Rawhide in 2009. However, Rawhide broadcaster Jill Gearin says the name change was actually intended to honor the area's dairy industry.[1] Cowbells also figure prominently: A video of the 2000 Saturday Night Live sketch with Christopher Walken ("I've got a FEVER - and the only prescription is - more COWBELL!") plays before games; during them, cowbells - many in the hands of fans who got them free as Rawhide giveaway items - clang frequently; and the "world's largest cowbell" stands on the berm called "The Pasture" and rings for Rawhide home runs.
MLB's 2021 Minor League Reorganization lowered the Rawhide, and most of the Cali circuit, one level. The Diamondbacks-Visalia partnership, affiliated since 2007, survived the reorganization, and that partnership is now Visalia's longest.
A Visalia Oaks cap was among five Cali League ones that became clues to solving a murder in TV's Life (2007-2009).
The Rawhide play Copa de la Diversión Hispanic engagement campaign series as Toros de Visalia (Visalia Bulls).
