Team History[edit]

The Hillsboro Hops, of the High-A Northwest League and briefly in High-A West, chose their nickname to salute Oregon as a leading United States producer of the beer ingredient - with a pun on what happens when a baseball is batted sharply onto the ground. The Arizona Diamondbacks farmhands play their home games at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro, OR.

MLB's 2021 Minor League Reorganization raised the Hops, and most of the Northwest circuit, two levels and kept them with the D-backs. Founded as the Salem Senators in nearby Salem, OR, in 1977, the franchise changed hands three times in its first 11 years. Three seasons later, the last of those owners moved it to Yakima, WA, where it was the Yakima Bears until the 2013 move to Hillsboro.

The Hops play Copa de la Diversión Hispanic engagement campaign games as Soñadores de Hillsboro (Hillsboro Dreamers). It was no dream, however, that Hillsboro won the 2022 Copa competition.
