All-Star Game[edit]

The National League won the forty-eighth midsummer classic at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Tuesday, July 19, 1977 by a score of 7 to 6. The league's manager was Sparky Anderson.

Postseason[edit]

The National League Championship Series, featured Philadelphia Phillies, the Eastern Division winner, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Western Division winner. The Dodgers defeated the Phillies, 3 games to 1.

In the World Series, the National League champion Los Angeles Dodgers were defeated by the American League's New York Yankees, 4 games to 2.

Award winners[edit]

The winner of the league's Most Valuable Player Award, given its Most Valuable Player, was George Foster, an outfielder with the Cincinnati Reds. In the award's voting, he had 291 out of a possible 336 points and 15 first place votes.

The winner of the league's Cy Young Award, given its best pitcher, was Steve Carlton of the Philadelphia Phillies. In the award's voting, he had 104 out of a possible 120 points and 17 first place votes.

The winner of the league's Rookie of the Year Award, given its best rookie player, was Andre Dawson, an outfielder with the Montréal Expos. In the award's voting, he had 10 out of a possible 24 points and 10 first place votes.

Hall of Fame Game[edit]

The thirty-fifth annual Hall of Fame Game was played on August 8 at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, NY near the National Baseball Hall of Fame. In the game, the National League's Philadelphia Phillies lost to the Minnesota Twins of the American League by a score of 8 to 5.
