Biographical Information[edit]
Bill Williams was an umpire in the Evangeline League (1956), Southwestern League (1957), South Atlantic League (1958- July 1959), and International League (July 1959- July 1963). He was then a National League umpire from August 1963 to 1987. In all, he worked 3,432 regular season games, in addition to one Division Series, four National League Championship Series, three World Series and three All-Star Games.
His son, Billy Williams, III, was the General Manager of the Spartanburg Phillies in the late 1970s. Prior to his umpiring career, he served in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1951.
