All-Star Game[edit]

The National League lost the fifty-seventh midsummer classic at Astrodome in Houston, TX on Tuesday, July 15, 1986 by a score of 3 to 2. The league's manager was Whitey Herzog.

Postseason[edit]

The National League Championship Series, featured New York Mets, the Eastern Division winner, and the Houston Astros, the Western Division winner. The Mets defeated the Astros, 4 games to 2.

In the World Series, the National League champion New York Mets defeated the American League's Boston Red Sox, 4 games to 3.

Award winners[edit]

The winner of the league's Most Valuable Player Award, given its Most Valuable Player, was Mike Schmidt, a third baseman with the Philadelphia Phillies. In the award's voting, he had 287 out of a possible 336 points and 15 first place votes.

The winner of the league's Cy Young Award, given its best pitcher, was Mike Scott of the Houston Astros. In the award's voting, he had 98 out of a possible 120 points and 15 first place votes.
