2009 AAA All-Star Game
The 2009 AAA All-Star Game was played on July 15, 2009 in Portland, OR. The event was hosted by the Portland Beavers, the AAA affiliate of the San Diego Padres.
The Pacific Coast League served as the home team. The PCL All-Stars were managed by Randy Ready of the hometown Portland Beavers. His assistants were Dwight Bernard of the Tacoma Rainiers and Brian McArn of the Sacramento River Cats. The International League team was managed by Rick Sweet of the Louisville Bats. Gary Allenson of the Norfolk Tides and Ken Oberkfell of the Buffalo Bisons served as his coaches. The game was broadcast on ESPN2 with Rich Burk, John Manuel and Eric Young calling the game.
After two scoreless innings the IL broke through in the third as doubles by Erik Kratz and Reid Brignac scored one run and then Drew Stubbs followed that with a 2 run homer to make it 3-0. Brendan Katin hit a solo shot for the PCL in their half of the 3rd to make it a 3-1 game. The IL added a fourth run in the fifth inning off a Justin Huber sac fly plating Austin Jackson. But the PCL would answer with a Esteban German 2 RBI single to make it 4-3. In the 6th Kratz struck again, this time with a 2 run homer to make it 6-3 IL. In the bottom of the ninth German hit a 2 run homer of his own to make it 6-5, but the IL was finally able to close the door on the PCL and pick up the victory. Andrew Carpenter of the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs got the win., the loss was given to Yorman Bazardo of the Round Rock Express and the save to Fernando Cabrera of the Pawtucket Red Sox.
The Top Stars Awards were given to the game MVP from each team. The International League award went to Erik Kratz of the Indianapolis Indians who went 2-2 with 2 RBI. Esteban German of the Oklahoma City Redhawks won the award for the PCL going 3-4 with 3 RBI.
