Lone Star League

From BR Bullpen

There have been three entries known as the Lone Star League in the annals of minor league baseball. The longest-running circuit was the first, going from 1927 through 1929 in class D. In 1947 a class C operation was started with the name and it played for two years before ending its existence. The class C league fielded some fine teams and developed some good talent, but it fell a little quicker then many post war leagues due to falling attendance and a tough financial situation. In 1977 the Gulf States League was renamed the Lone Star League but this class A loop, entirely composed of non-affiliated teams, only played for one year. No champion was declared because Corpus Christi refused to play in a playoff after taking both halves of the tougher Southern division. The class A league made no effort to operate the following year and it appears that the Lone Star League may have played for the last time, or at least in the foreseeable future.
