Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Harry Davis collected 3,039 hits with 596 doubles, 150 home runs, and 240 stolen bases in the minor leagues between 1925 and 1950. He spent most of his career in the top minor leagues, specifically many years in the International League.

As a rookie in the majors, with the Detroit Tigers in 1932, he played alongside Charlie Gehringer in the field, and led the team in triples. He received 6% of the MVP vote that year, good for 19th in the voting. He slumped in 1933 and a kid named Hank Greenberg, 22 years old, became the regular first baseman. Harry came back to the majors with the St. Louis Browns in 1937, under two Hall of Fame managers, Rogers Hornsby and Jim Bottomley. Playing as a regular (120 games), he was second on the team in runs scored.
