Biographical Information[edit]
Willis Chamness pitched in 1941 and from 1947 to 1949, spending 1942-1946 in the US Army during World War II. With the Kilgore Drillers in 1948, he went 19-10 with a 4.06 ERA and a Lone Star League-leading 162 strikeouts in 40 games (244 innings). He was 29-33 with a 4.83 ERA in 88 games (514 innings) overall.
On July 13, 1947 Chamness got married at home plate before a game. He then started the game that night, and when he was knocked out in the 8th inning, his best man Ed Kennon relieved him [1].
