Biographical Information

Frank Martin has been confused with a contemporary of the same name who also lived in Chicago, IL. The ballplayer Martin was not originally from Chicago, having been born in Colorado in 1878. He married Kathryn Fleming in 1902 and lived in Chicago until his death in 1942, 18 years after the date that had previously been associated with his name.

Martin played three years in the majors, starting at age 18. He was one of nine players used at second base by the 1897 Louisville Colonels (another was the rookie Honus Wagner). Most of his major league games, however, were spent with the 1899 New York Giants; the team used 11 third basemen that year, one of which was Martin, who had the best range of the group.

Frank later played a second time for the Louisville Colonels, this time in 1903 when they were a minor league team in the American Association.
