Texas City Stars

From BR Bullpen

The last professional baseball team in Texas City, TX as of 2006 was the Texas City Stars. Playing in the Lone Star League in its only season of 1977, the Stars were 16-22 in the first half, last in the northern division. They won the second half in the north at 19-19, but the playoffs were cancelled when the top team in the south, the Corpus Christi Seagulls, refused to participate in the post-season. Texas City would have played the first-half northern champions, the Victoria Rosebuds. Managed by Al Gallagher, the club drew 12,305 fans, 5th in the 6-team league and they were outscored 473-437. Gallagher not only was the manager, but also their top hitter (.352/~.437/.497) and second on the club in ERA (0-1, 2 Sv, 2.85). OF-C-1B Rick Seid hit .309/~.376/.534 and led the league in total bases (164). He was second in the league in homers (14), tied for the lead in doubles (21) and was fourth in RBI (59).
