Biographical Information

Charlie Dorman played with the Oakland Oaks in the Pacific Coast League in 1919 and 1920 as a catcher. In 1919 he played in one game, was at bat only once and had no hits. In 1920 he played in 53 games, was at bat 166 times for an average of .193. In 1921 he played for the Salt Lake City Bees and was in two games, at bat 6 times and hit .333. He returned to the PCL in 1924 playing for the Vernon Tigers. Slats played outfield, was in two games and at bat 4 times with no hits.

A period newspaper describes how he was signed to a contract with Washington by Joe Engel. Dorman was in the stands watching a San Francisco-Salt Lake minor league game when catcher Byrd Lynn dislocated his shoulder. With no back up, Dorman went down from the stands to sub for him. A few great plays later and he was on a train to Washington. See [1]
